The process is kind of tedious and as I mentioned in previous post, time is too precious to spent on nails for hours. Ha!

Turned out, I rather spent time on nails for hours. By doing two designs back to back. Ha!

Time was pretty tight for me even though it was the holiday. So, all I think of was to have a manicure that doesn't require much time to do.

So I had some glitters over plain base and then had my accent nail painted with peacock feather. I learned the design via Instagram. Gotta get back with you on the Instagrammer who inspired me.

He was always up on our living room to steal the TV from us. So one day, while watching his fav show...

"Auntie Carol, I think this pattern can be a perfect design for your next nail project."

I looked at the throw cushion.
Well, how come I never thought of that before?

So, sort of like accepting a challenge, I did some hand painted rose abstract with black acrylic over a grey base.

I bought this fan brush unknowing what its purpose is until I saw a pretty nail art by SimpleNailArtDesigns using fan brush.

The only difficulty I found here was that my fan brush tend to clump on its end making the lines look horribly fat instead of perfect thin lines. Will try again with different type of fan brush.
It was actually last year's Christmas gift from my sister in-law and I haven't found the right time to wear it. Now that Christmas is fast approaching, I think that these need to be tried a.s.a.p.

Surprisingly, applying it on nail is super easy. Perfect for those on the go. You can even apply the strips while you are seating in a plane. Talking about super busy, no-time-for-proper-manicure girls here.

The only thing that irk me is when taking them off. It says, removing is easy by just using nail polish remover. But I find the glue isn't that easy to rub off. I prefer peeling them off although that is a big no-no for the nails.

However, given some pretty patterns available, I will still want to purchase this. You never know when you need this kind of product. It could be a real saviour and the only thing that could actually boost up your vanity. LOL!carolchshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03262348460265820343noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217992031451481028.post-55037082075556172542012-11-29T11:11:00.001+08:002012-11-29T11:12:17.730+08:00Half moon gradientIt has been a month since my last entry. Well, there were few things happened recently which includes an unfortunate event. But hey, I'm trying to catch up here. ^__^

So to kick off with my nail painting again, I was inspired to do this half moon nail design. I have seen it a few times before by several nail bloggers including those in my Instagram. But when I found thenailsaurus on Insta (how could I missed it on her blog?) and saw her half moon gradient nails, I could resist no more.

Still long way to perfect half moon but for now, I am happy I finally did it.

I should know better that I couldn't do this challenge as I do not have the privilege to do my nails on daily basis.

I've done about a quarter of the challenges and gotta show 'em here anyway.

DAY 1 : RED
Initially, I wanted to do a design in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness month. However, I couldn't find the right pink to match with the China Glaze Elephant Walk grey.

And those are all the challenges I managed to do before I decided to quit. Ha!
I know challenges should be a fun thing to do. But given my situation, it wasn't anywhere fun when I really have to squeeze my brain while I have tons of work to complete. Besides, I had a hard time wiping off those one-day nail art especially when I find them pretty to be wiped off so soon.

So yeah, this 30 days nail challenge is not meant for me. At least, not now.
Haven't been put up anything for ONE month? Yikes.

Anyways, my nail art activity isn't as sluggish as my post in here. In fact, I've been doing almost every two days just because I have joined the 31 Days nail challenge. But funny how, that (the challenge) too is lagging behind. I'm still on Day 10 whilst it's already the 24th of this month. Double yikes.

Here's my Malaysia flag in conjunction with the National Day (31st Aug) and Malaysia Day (16th Sept). If one really have to scrutinize the flag, it isn't drawn accurately i.e. the red and white stripes aren't same size. But, that's the best I could come up with (so far). I even drew hibiscus flower which is the national flower for Malaysia. Hee.
So I did try but they were all a disaster especially those I did with tape. However, not wanting to give up on tape and knowing that there must be easier ways to achieve that chevron design using tape, I tried again yesterday.

Eureka!

Well, at least this time it doesn't turn to any disaster. ^_^
It's only known as cling wrap here despite the many brand names. ^_^

So when I discovered saran wrap nail art, I was wrapped with curiosity. Thanks to Internet, I have another info added in my Book of Knowledge. A better tutorial can be found at Nailed It.

I painted on base color with China Glaze Exotic Encounters. By the way, I have not done any swatches on my recent purchase of four colors from the twelve colors in the China Glaze Safari Collection 2012. Will try to do that soonest. So okay, back to the point... after letting the base color dry, I painted a coat of Elianto Indigo Shine on top of the base. While the color is still wet, I took a tiny piece of cling wrap shaped in tiny ball, dab on the wet color picking some of it. Refer tutorial on link attached above. Then, I put on a coat of Seche Vite fast drying top coat so that I will have smooth surface to paint on the peacock feather.

Using acrylic paint, I drew the peacock feather on thumb and ring finger nails to serve as accent nails. For the detail colors in the centre of the feather, I used Tony Moly GL01, OPI Fly and Elianto Indigo Shine. I put on another two coats of Seche Vite on every nails to seal the colors properly.

I had fun!

For those who love painting their nails with plain colors but is getting tired of plain look. This could be our solution. Put some rhinestones and your otherwise plain colored nails will instantly be a sizzle to the eyes.

I painted all nails with Revlon Creme Brule, top them off with Seche Vite top coat. While they are still wet, I added some clear round rhinestones. Since I wanted a water droplet look but doesn't have any droplet shape rhinestone, I picked on two different sizes of round clear rhinestones to emulate the shape of water droplet. Well, maybe not so much alike but I'm still contented with the outcome.

I would have worn this for a straight five days if it ain't because there's only three days work this week. And so, I can think of other, much energetic colors to wear.

Cheers!carolchshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03262348460265820343noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217992031451481028.post-45140489512808824742012-08-12T18:26:00.000+08:002012-08-12T21:29:30.893+08:00Yellow MellowYesterday, a friend asked to do her nails for her upcoming beach vacation. She is much in love with grey and yellow. But when I finally done with her nails, they shouted more yellow than grey. I think they're nice. After all, she's gonna be on flip flops all the time. And the color just popped!
I am so in love with China Glaze On Safari Collection for Fall 2012. However, due to budget limit I can only purchase 3 from 12 bottles available. I wanted something yellow for my friend's nail art. Hence the Sunshine Pop.
I couldn't let the weekend passed without trying one of those colors I've purchased, could I? I painted China Glaze Kalahari Kiss as base and sponged on Revlon Chic on the tip. Not so great and so they only stayed on my nails for just one night. ^__^carolchshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03262348460265820343noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217992031451481028.post-39893213735655068232012-08-09T21:56:00.002+08:002012-08-09T22:00:59.131+08:00Stripes Water MarbleI fell in love with this thin lines water marble the moment I laid eyes on it. I learned the technique from Collete's Youtube tutorial.

It didn't work the first time I did it. The stripes looked too sparse. After thorough learning, I've managed to at least create the thin lines that supposed to make up for this stripes effect. I haven't nailed it yet but I will. Ha!

And I am currently working on a nail art project of my own. It always bogged me that I could not simply wear nail art to work without attracting a few young eyes that eventually causing some kids to try out on their nails as well. Which is of course, not an encouraging thing considering the rule that students cannot paint their nails during schooling days. So I came up with this project to create five nail art designs that are subtle to be worn at work yet pretty enough to be ogled when spotted.

So this is the first design in attempt to complete my Five Nail Art for Work series. I think I have pretty done it well cos one of my colleagues mentioned that she wouldn't notice it if it wasn't because I purposely shoved my nails to her. I know, I know...why on earth paint your nails if you don't intend to show them off. Well, let's get back to the main purpose again...subtle yet with visible vanity. Get it?

Anyways. here are some photos.

Almost there but not quite...

Re-do all finger nails except the index nails but I got way too much with cleaning, the color along the cuticle end up looking ugly. This photo was taken at night time with flash on.

Last try...

Excuse the bubbles on me nails. I have yet to master the art of minimizing bubbles in this water marbling technique.

I will definitely try this technique again soonest and with different color combo.
A nail art enthusiast like me and a nail polish named after my name!

I found this nail polish at Polish Art Addiction. Love her blog by the way. She's one amazing nail artist. Her talent in freehand painting is superb.

Now, that Caroline. It comes in purple with blue holographic sparkles. Although I always tell myself that I'm no big fan of purple shades, it always amazes me that when given a choice, I usually ended up with purple shades (besides neutral colors).
I thought of posting up a simple video tutorial on this one as well.

So here it is.
My apology for the bad lighting in this clip. Hope this tutorial helps nonetheless.

This needs practice just as applying nail polish requires lots of practice to get nicely painted nails without much mess. I agree with most nail artists that the best way to get a perfect painted nails still lies in the skill of applying nail polish on nails so that you will get neater painted nails without worrying much about cleaning the mess.

So yeah, practice away!carolchshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03262348460265820343noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217992031451481028.post-42956998153566651402012-08-01T22:55:00.002+08:002012-08-02T05:40:16.569+08:00Gradient, gradient! My nails are all very short at the moment. It will take at least a week or two to get them grow to a length that is just nice for nail painting. So, while mine are bare, I work my hands on others instead.

Sister in-law was in town last weekend and she was the perfect candidate to satisfy my fix for nail painting. And she opted for gradient. IMHO, gradient is one of the easiest nail art and the quickest to dry. I was more than happy to do gradient on her nails.

For her event, she wanted something bright. She personally had her eyes the OPI Niki Minaj collection and finally chose Did It On 'Em for her first nail art. I used another darker green from Oroloy since that is the only green shade I have that can mix well with Did It On 'Em's intense 'brightness'.

For her second nail art, she wanted something subtle. Something that is easy at work, yet still catchy to the eyes. Again, she wanted gradient. So I did gradient on her nails leaving only the ring fingers as accent nail. On the accent nail, I painted poppy flowers (again!).

Orchid came to mind. But just as I started to draft a design, poppy popped up.

And poppy it is!

It wasn't difficult to paint poppy flowers. All you need are dotting tool and a striping brush. That's all. ^^

Initially, I wanted to do lines water marble but my Sally Hansen Black Out didn't cooperate with me. At third dropping, the polish just didn't want to spread out properly. I only managed to drop a few polishes and created about 4-6 rings of colors, which is not enough.

It was frustrating, really. But the outcome it gives really soothe the frustration. You can read how I survived the process HERE.

And so I have tried several times
Neon colors

I tried this nail art again yesterday since I ran out of ideas on what to do for my weekend nail. This time, I spent hours doing it too but not because I was not able to get the process right. It was just because I couldn't find the perfect combo that I wanted. Even more so when some expensive brand I use i.e. OPI, Sally Hansen and Revlon did not cooperate well. In the end, I got back to this cheaper brand, Eleanor and she's really a savior. I just need to buy more of these in different colors. Cheaper and it saves me from wasting much of my expensive nail polishes. Ha!

And here's something new on this blog.

A video tutorial!

I finally got my hands around doing this video tutorial after been asking lot from some friends especially Cathj. And thanks to the hubby who helped to record this video. With no good video camera, I am only using my iPhone video capture and this where the hubby comes handy. Ha!

I know this video editing is very noobie, but hey I am a first timer at this. Will try to improve from time to time.

Enjoy!
Only managed to do it on fake nail. However, recently blogger friend Dyana did a few design of taped mani that awaken my love for this particular shoe lace taped mani. I personally think it's beautiful and the pink colors just make it awesome for girls to wear this mani. Especially if she's a ballerina. Just saying. ^^
I've only been to their premise once but was not impressed with their color selection. Last weekend, I was in search for another nude color nail polish so I can wear it to work. Since I was there, I checked them in again and voila, look what I've found! They do have some nice colors and glitters too (I gather they have expanded on their selection).

This isn't really nude but the color is subtle enough to be worn for work. I know this color will not be a much distraction during classroom teaching progress and indeed it is.

I also found a few bottles of glitter polish. Pretty! I wanted them all but conscience reminded me I only have some amount of cash left for nail polishes this month. Oh well...

I applied this glitter polish on top of the TR07 and it resulted in this jelly sandwich look-a-like nail art. I think.
My cuticles are dry. It's time to put more cuticle oil on 'em. I've been neglecting this routine lately.

On a different note, I can't wait for my fav online nail shop to re-open. Ten more days!

Yes, glitters is the theme for this week FF.
I know most you nail art/polish addict keep a bottle (or more) of glitter polish. I do too. But the ones that I currently have are mostly normal round shape glitters. I'm eager waiting for that day when I can finally own pretty glitters that come with different shapes i.e. hex shape, star shape.

I admit, I love looking at glitter polishes but dislike the mess that needed to be cleaned up post painting. Albeit having tips on how to clean up on glitters, I still find glitter nail polish is a tough one to deal with. How about you?

Anyways, let's proceed with the FF shall we?

Here's my version of glittery nail art.
I did a gradient combo of two colors before I added some glitters on it.

I'm in love with this mani that I took lotsa of photos of them. I even thinking of letting them stay for a few days. Will think how am I going to hide my nails from my kids. :)
Not that I fancy giraffe much but I do find giraffe's skin pattern interesting. That coming from a person who loves any shades of brown :)

So yeah, I decided to do giraffe skin patten on me nails for this week FF.

I wanted to use the brown polish that I'm holding to draw the brown patches. But it dries very quick and so painting gets difficult. I don't have dark brown acrylic paint as well but much thanks to Art class, I was able to get dark brown color by mixing red, yellow and blue. But I did the mixing separately for each nail. Hence, the different shade of brown. Still, I feel satisfied about it.

A passport photo of a hand!

Do you like it?
Animal prints have been my latest crave lately... from leopard print to snake skin to giraffe print...and lots more animal prints to explore. I guess, there's this attraction that these animals have on me and nail art. I think, you feel me too.

Here's a photo of what I did earlier. It isn't my final animal print nail art cos I was actually trying first hand on giraffe print. I love how it turned out though. Might do the rest of the nails tomorrow.

By the way, I'd like to convey my sincere appreciation to Michelle for linking up for the FF: Ikat inspired theme...and also to Ngiau and Vera for posting their ikat inspired nail art on Instagram. Appreciate the support girls.

Let's rawk the animal in you!
I wanted a darker background and also wanted to try the new shade of OPI green I bought recently.

I love this green shade Don't Mess with OPI. And it's creme finish and I just love creme finish polish.

Below are the ikat nail art in green I made. I think I went too much with black on the ring finger and it doesn't look so naturally ikat. In fact, my right nails are much better done than this. Ha!

I purposely left two nails unpainted cos I prefer to show off the beauty of this base color. ^_^

What do you think?

It's been quite a while since I last did Friday Fingers. Even my FF buddies Edith and Lizee are quite tight with work at the moment.

But!

I have found new nail art buddies. And they have agreed to join this Friday Finger and I hope they do cos it is so much fun painting nails and having them shared with friends with the same interest. Jangan tarik diri ah Beaty, Ngiau, Michelle, Vera and Dyana ^_^
